Every Rotary club is responsible for raising funds to enable them to carry out their community services. Our club raises funds in the following ways:
The annual cycle tour is our largest fundraising event and allows only a 100 cyclists to ride through 100km of ‘Big Five’ territory across four private nature reserves. It is now established as one of the ‘must do’ events in the off-road cyclists’ calendar. Many of the riders have participated in each event since the tour started because of the unique nature of the experience. The cycle tour raises in excess of R325 000 which benefits the anti-poaching efforts of the participating reserves, as well as other community upliftment projects.
The club has a book stall at the local farmer’s market which takes place on the first Saturday of every month. We receive book donations and display them; any donation for a book is welcome! The income from the book sales goes towards literacy projects.
Our presence at the market gives us visibility and valuable opportunities to interact with the local community. Rotary memebers from other clubs, nationally and internationally, are welcome guests to our stall.
