The first female Rotary International President in history for 2022/23, President , Jennifer Jones intends to ROCK Rotary this year with her mission statement Imagine – “Imagine the possibilities in the changes Rotarians can make to transform the world.”
The Rotary Club of Hoedspruit is more progressive, and at our annual induction dinner at The Tasting Room, President Wilana Manderson, was appointed again as our fifth lady President and as is customary, shared her mission and vision with club members and guests. She read out the very moving lyrics of the epic John Lennon song:
Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin’ for today ………..
… You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
On the evening, President Wilana also inducted two new members Venessa Hayne and Nomsa Thibela to the club. Certificates of Merit for contributing to work in the community were handed to Jozua van Wyk from Hoedspruit Radio and David Fitzhugh, the project manager on our Poulo Creche borehole project.
For this very busy club, things have been rather different this year. We are currently in the final stretch of organising the Rotary K2C Cycle Tour which takes place for the first time in three years on Saturday 16 July having been put on hold due to Covid and the excitement in the club and amongst the riders is palpable. The Rotary K2C Cycle Tour is our biggest fundraiser of the year and not being able to host it due to COVID forced us to think out of the box and look at other ways of raising funds.
There are still a few places left due to last minute cancellations and if you still want to enter this year or next year, please do not hesitate to contact us (www.k2c-cycletour.co.za)
President Wilana said “not being able to host the Rotary K2C Cycle Tour did not mean that we were resting on our laurels, on the contrary we had to think and work smarter and as a result a number of exciting projects are in the pipeline – a unique regional recipe book, an online auction and also the completion of our borehole project at the Poulo Creche in The Oaks.
Finally, she reminded us that as a Rotarian, we have FREE access to more than 91 online training programmes, developing the next generation of leaders and making peace a priority.
She also invited members of the Hoedspruit community to attend a meeting as a guest to see what we are doing and to get involved in some of the projects. We meet every second Thursday night at The Tasting Room. To get more information on the dates, please contact secretary@hoedspruitrotary.org.za.
